28-year-old Liu Fucai is a villager of Fanyang Fourth Village, Fanyang Town, Wuzhishan City, Hainan Province. After graduating from high school, he set up a breeding cooperative in his hometown, raising pigs, chickens and ducks, and also growing bananas, but all yielded meager profits. In 2015, Liu Fucai tried raising 6 porcupines and achieved decent returns. In May 2016, he made a special trip to Taoyuan County, Hunan Province to study porcupine breeding experience and techniques. After returning, Liu Fucai convinced his family and took out the 120,000 yuan originally set aside for building a new house to build, on the basis of the original cooperative breeding farm, a 300 sq m biogas ecological circular porcupine breeding farm. With the coordination and help of the local government, using a "government + cooperative + impoverished households" model, he led a total of 27 impoverished households from Fanyang Third Village and Fourth Village to join the cooperative and take part in porcupine breeding. At present, Liu Fucai's porcupine breeding farm raises more than 100 porcupines, and the impoverished households take turns coming regularly to work and learn breeding techniques. It is expected that by the end of this year, nearly 200 porcupines can be sent to market, at which point each impoverished household can obtain a profit of more than 4,000 yuan. Liu Fucai said: "Porcupine breeding has low costs and high profits. I am confident about raising porcupines." At the same time, he hopes to gradually expand the scale of breeding and make the industry bigger. "I not only want to help impoverished households escape poverty, but also to lead everyone to prosperity together."
