Oil-tea camellia trees in Xinshao County become the "wealth trees" for the people's poverty alleviation

Shaoyang News Online (Correspondent Huang Tangquan) On the morning of May 31, the author came to the Huayi Oil-tea Camellia Base in Changjiang Village, Chenjiafang Town, Xinshao County. Standing at the highest point of the oil-tea camellia plantation, one could see the concentrated, contiguous oil-tea camellia forest full of verdant green and vitality, quite a spectacular sight. Before our eyes, sturdy oil-tea camellia trees stood lush and green, their branches laden with fruit.
"Our Huayi Oil-tea Camellia Base was established with government assistance and covers nearly 1500 mu. This year about 300 mu of oil-tea camellia trees will bear fruit, which will bring us a considerable income. This year is the first harvest, and the income will increase year by year in the future. These oil-tea camellia trees are now our wealth trees," said Li Changqing, the person in charge of the base, who was working in the camellia field and came over with a smile to introduce the situation to the author.
This is a microcosm of how Xinshao County closely combines the development of the oil-tea camellia industry with targeted poverty alleviation, and is committed to helping farmers increase their incomes and become prosperous through the development of the oil-tea camellia industry. In order to accelerate the development of the oil-tea camellia industry and help farmers shake off poverty and become prosperous through oil-tea camellia industry poverty alleviation, the county Party committee and county government issued a series of documents, including the "Xinshao County Oil-tea Camellia Industry Development Plan (2017-2020) (Trial)", the "Xinshao County Agricultural Industry (Targeted Poverty Alleviation) Management and Support Measures (Trial)", and the "Xinshao County Implementation Plan for Promoting Agricultural Industry (Targeted Poverty Alleviation) Development (2017-2020) (Trial)". Extensive publicity was carried out, and special meetings were held on task arrangements and work implementation.
In order to achieve sound and rapid development of the oil-tea camellia industry and bring the benefits of industrial support to thousands of people, Xinshao County has adopted various development models such as "cooperatives + poor farmers" and "large growers leading small growers". It not only encourages professional large growers to contract land, but also supports thousands of households to plant oil-tea camellia trees, focusing on helping poor farmers actively participate in the collective development of the oil-tea camellia industry. At the same time, it has effectively solved problems facing the development of the oil-tea camellia industry, such as difficulties in land transfer and development and difficulties in raising funds for early-stage investment.
Since the beginning of spring this year, Xinshao County has rapidly set off an upsurge in oil-tea camellia afforestation. According to what the author learned from the Xinshao County Forestry Bureau, in the first half of this year Xinshao County newly planted 22526 mu of oil-tea camellia and tended 12000 mu. Some have already borne fruit and produced a harvest this year, while others are still in the young forest stage. The development of the oil-tea camellia industry is showing vigorous vitality and has become a new driving force for leveraging industrial poverty alleviation, increasing farmers' incomes, and helping poor people shake off poverty.
