Daily pig review: demand boost drives across-the-board price rises
On November 28, 2017, the average price of three-way crossbred pigs in major producing areas nationwide was 14.55 yuan/kg, up 0.05 yuan/kg from yesterday. The highest pig price was in Sichuan ( agricultural land, commercial and residential land, industrial land), with an average price of 15.3 yuan/kg, while the lowest area was Inner Mongolia, with an average price of 14.3 yuan/kg.
Today, pig prices in major producing areas continued to rise across the board, with both north and south turning red. In particular, after stalling for two days, the Northeast saw widespread increases again, with pig prices hitting a new stage high and the upward trend now established. Recently, as temperatures fell further, the Southwest and other areas began concentrated demand such as cured meat production, and pig prices in the Southwest quickly broke through 15 yuan/kg, with a trend of continuing upward. Previously, northern pig prices rose first, while southern pig prices were constrained by relatively sluggish demand, creating a north-south price inversion. Now, however, southern demand has started, pig prices have begun to rise, and coupled with the impact of environmental protection closures, southern pig prices are expected to have considerable room to rise in the short term, and the north-south price gap is likely to widen, which is favorable for later trends.
Daily poultry review: chicken prices climb again, chick prices continue to rise
On November 29, 2017, the average price of live chickens in major producing areas was 7.28 yuan/kg, up 0.04 yuan/kg from yesterday, with the highest price in Jiangsu ( agricultural land, commercial and residential land, industrial land) at 7.38 yuan/kg and the lowest price in Liaoning ( agricultural land, commercial and residential land, industrial land) at 7.12 yuan/kg. Recently, live chicken prices have generally shown a volatile upward trend, and over the past week the rise has been more pronounced, mainly due to a decline in live chicken slaughter volumes and somewhat improved demand. Voices in the market expecting further gains have emerged. Although slaughterhouses still have some willingness to push prices down and keep adjusting their operating rates, the effect of price suppression is no longer obvious, and chicken prices are expected to continue rising.
On November 29, the average price of chicks in major producing areas was 2.45 yuan/bird, up 0.10 yuan/bird from yesterday. Among these, the highest price was in Liaoning at 2.75 yuan/bird, and the lowest price was in Jiangsu at 2.35 yuan/bird. Recently, live chicken prices have continued to rise, boosting market confidence in the outlook and raising farmers' enthusiasm for restocking. Chick sales have been smooth, breeding farms are holding prices firm, and chick prices are accelerating upward. In the short term, prices from large farms in some areas are expected to break through 3 yuan/bird.
Daily egg review: egg prices edge up again, futures for distant months rise
On November 29, 2017, egg prices in major producing areas nationwide edged up again, with an average price of 8.36 yuan/kg, up 0.08 yuan/kg from yesterday. Among these, Shandong ( agricultural land, commercial and residential land, industrial land) had the highest average price at 8.56 yuan/kg, and Liaoning had the lowest average price at 8.06 yuan/kg. Since last week, egg prices have risen considerably. At the start of this week, egg prices showed some signs of adjustment but did not fall significantly. Today, egg prices in major producing areas rose again, and prices in sales areas also firmed with some gains. Shipments from producing areas were relatively fast, and laying hen inventories remain at a relatively low level, with overall market supply not plentiful, supporting egg prices. In the short term, egg prices are expected mainly to fluctuate and adjust, with still some room for modest gains.
Futures: The main egg contract (JD1801) opened today at 4520 yuan/500 kg, settled yesterday at 4496 yuan/500 kg, reached a high of 4578 yuan/500 kg and a low of 4496 yuan/500 kg, latest at 4569 yuan/500 kg, closing up 1.62%, with about 128,100 lots traded at close and open interest of 151,100 lots. The egg contract (JD1712) opened today at 4459 yuan/500 kg, settled yesterday at 4453 yuan/500 kg, reached a high of 4488 yuan/500 kg and a low of 4459 yuan/500 kg, latest at 4480 yuan/500 kg, closing up 0.61%, with about 800 lots traded at close and open interest of 1,100 lots.
Daily soybean meal review: US soybeans slightly correct, domestic meal market under pressure and edges down
On November 29, 2017, domestic Dalian soybean meal futures fluctuated slightly lower. The main 1801 contract opened at 2894 yuan/tonne, reached a high of 2901 yuan/tonne and a low of 2886 yuan/tonne, and closed at 2887 yuan/tonne, down 0.48%. Affected by rainfall forecasts for Argentina, the CBOT soybean futures market oscillated lower on Tuesday, with soybean oil catching up during the session while soybean meal came under pressure.
Today, soybean meal prices at oil mills fell slightly. Quotes from oil mills in some areas: Changchun ( agricultural land, commercial and residential land, industrial land) 3190 yuan/tonne; Dalian ( agricultural land, commercial and residential land, industrial land) 3150 yuan/tonne; Tianjin ( agricultural land, commercial and residential land, industrial land) 3030 yuan/tonne; Qinhuangdao ( agricultural land, commercial and residential land, industrial land) 3050 yuan/tonne; Fangcheng 3030 yuan/tonne; Taizhou ( agricultural land, commercial and residential land, industrial land) 2990 yuan/tonne; Dongguan ( agricultural land, commercial and residential land, industrial land) 3010 yuan/tonne.
US soybeans continued to fluctuate within a narrow range, with Argentina rainfall forecasts and another increase in new-crop US soybean acreage dampening the market's enthusiasm for chasing highs. The domestic market fell under pressure, with spot prices down slightly by 10-20 yuan/tonne, and wait-and-see sentiment in the market warmed. Soybean meal inventories at oil mills rose slightly, but supply pressure was not great. However, imported soybean arrivals in December may exceed 10 million tonnes, supply is ample, and soybean meal trends may come under pressure.
