Wang Weiwei: Scientific farming leads to the road to prosperity

In Group 1 of Yanglang Village, Touying Town, Yuanzhou District, there is a 15-mu compound with 5 standardized cattle sheds arranged in neat rows, complete with a breeding area, a fodder area and a manure treatment area. This is Weiwei Family Farm, and its owner Wang Weiwei has become a well-known local cattle-raising "expert".

Wang Weiwei, in his 30s, has worked as a carpenter and a laborer, doing no shortage of hard and tiring work, yet he never earned much money. Yanglang Village has a tradition of raising cattle, and the hardships of starting a business away from home made Wang Weiwei think about returning to the village to raise cattle. In 2014, he used the tens of thousands of yuan he had saved from years of working plus money scraped together from various sources to build a breeding farm of over a thousand square meters. That year, the beef cattle market was good, and Wang Weiwei earned his first pot of gold from cattle raising. Afterwards, with the government's help, he established Weiwei Family Farm and set out on the path of scientific cattle raising.

In the process of raising cattle, Wang Weiwei often consulted experts and held video conversations with municipal and county breeding experts through the village's Sannong call center. Through trial and error, he turned from a layman into a cattle-raising expert.

The family farm currently has more than a hundred head of cattle on hand, mainly of the Qinchuan cattle and Red Angus breeds. In light of the characteristics and production goals of different herds and different growth and development stages, Wang Weiwei formulated nutritional standards and established and implemented standardized production technical protocols covering everything from cow breeding to calf rearing and beef cattle fattening. "The daily feeding cost per head of fattening cattle is kept at around 14 yuan, and the daily weight gain is kept at around 1.5 kg." Wang Weiwei described the daily routine of cattle raising in detail: "To raise cattle well, feeding must be scientific. I insist on feeding with fodder, which has achieved a highlight of cost saving and efficiency improvement. I put the whole corn plant and corn stalks into the feed machine to make feed, then add a small amount of distiller's grains, which ensures the absorption of nutrients."

The manure produced by the cattle farm every day is not wasted either. Wang Weiwei uses a manure stacking pit to let the manure slowly ferment into fertilizer and return it to the fields, achieving resource utilization of manure waste.

Through scientific breeding, Wang Weiwei sold nearly a hundred head of cattle last year, earning more than 200,000 yuan. Even after achieving prosperity, he has not forgotten his fellow villagers. After nearby farmers transfer their land to the farm, in addition to receiving a fixed land transfer fee, they can also work on the farm. The farm absorbs more than 100 surplus rural laborers each year, with per capita income of more than 5,000 yuan. "The next step is to continue changing the traditional feeding method, adopt a production model of household-based breeding and centralized fattening to expand the breeding scale, and let more fellow villagers participate in cattle raising and become prosperous together." Wang Weiwei is full of confidence in future development.
