The melon industry drives farmers to increase income and become prosperous
To promote the construction of the Xinzhou City melon standardization demonstration zone in accordance with modern agriculture's implementation of high yield, high quality, high efficiency, ecology and safety, on June 18, guided by the Xinzhou City Association for Science and Technology and hosted by the Xinzhou City Vegetable, Melon and Fruit Industry Association, the "2017 Xinzhou City Melon Standardized Production Technology Observation and Academic Seminar" was held in Xinzhou. Relevant responsible comrades from the provincial and municipal quality and technical supervision bureaus, the Municipal Agricultural Commission, the Municipal Science and Technology Bureau, and the Municipal Association for Science and Technology, along with technical backbones from agricultural technology units and heads of cooperatives from Xinfu District, Yuanping, Dingxiang, Wutai, Pianguan and other counties, about 80 people in total, attended the observation and seminar.
The participants successively went to the Jinshan Agricultural Science and Technology Demonstration Park in Buluo Village, Xinfu District, and the Tulingqiao Guangzi Agricultural Professional Cooperative, which carry out high-technical-content, strong demonstration-driven, and significantly income-increasing work, where they observed cultivation management techniques such as grafted melon hanging-vine cultivation, potted cultivation, and the application of integrated water and fertilizer technology, inspected the scale and benefits of melon output value, and discussed future development trends. Demonstration household Feng Guoliang said with a smile, "Under the guidance of the Xinzhou City Vegetable, Melon and Fruit Industry Association, I began melon grafting trials in December 2014. This year I grafted 2460 melon seedlings (about 1 mu), and up to now my income has already reached nearly 140,000 yuan." In recent years, the Xinzhou City Vegetable, Melon and Fruit Industry Association has actively planned and, with the help of the national standardization platform, built the Xinzhou melon green brand. The experiment and demonstration guidance for farmers' melon seedling technology achieved success, attaining the effect of increasing agricultural efficiency and farmers' income.
Melon is a characteristic agriculture with a long planting history in Xinzhou City, and in previous years it was mainly produced in open fields. In recent years, the vigorous development of facility agriculture has brought melon production into solar greenhouses and plastic tunnels, and it has become an advantageous characteristic industry for increasing agricultural efficiency and farmers' income. Through this observation, the participants affirmed the melon production technology, effectively promoting learning and communication among agricultural technicians and the exchange of experience among growers, and providing strong scientific and technological support for further giving play to the demonstration role of scientific and technological projects and promoting the development of new rural construction.
After the observation ended, an academic seminar was also held. The seminar was chaired by Yan Yingjun, vice chairman of the Municipal Association for Science and Technology. Qin Zhongwu, deputy director of the Standardization Division of the Provincial Quality and Technical Supervision Bureau, Zhang Chunxia, full division-level researcher of the Municipal Agricultural Commission, and Guo Junqing, president of the Municipal Vegetable, Melon and Fruit Industry Association, spoke respectively, and Li Wenshu, vice chairman of the Municipal Association for Science and Technology, delivered a welcome speech.
