Why It's Hard for Rural People to Get Rich: Mainly Because of These Roadblocks

Why is it hard for rural people to get rich? Because of these roadblocks, and rural folks will surely agree!

Introduction:

Everyone says hard work brings wealth, yet we rural people are by no means lazy, and can even be said to be known for our hard work. So why is it still hard to get rich? I think it mainly comes down to the following reasons. (Subscribe: Laosan Talks About Rural Affairs to learn about rural issues across the country)

1. Hard to Turn a Profit

Many times, agricultural products are produced, but the prices are far from satisfactory, sometimes so low that you cannot even recover the cost, while the prices of agricultural production materials keep rising year after year. With prices falling on one side and costs climbing on the other, how are farmers supposed to get rich? Not losing money is already lucky. It can be said that low prices for agricultural products are the main reason rural people find it hard to get rich.

2. Hard to Get Financing

Speaking of financing may sound very high-end, and many farmers do not understand it, but it is really just what we usually call difficulty in getting loans. Many rural friends who are tired of working away from home return to their hometowns wanting to develop agricultural production, but they lack capital. So they think of borrowing from banks, but banks have always favored the rich and turned away the poor. Loans require collateral, but aside from a house being worth a bit of money, what else do we farmers have that is worth anything? Moreover, in rural areas, how much is a farmhouse really worth, and would you dare to mortgage your own house for a loan? Still, it is understandable: banks are responsible for depositors' funds, so of course they lend cautiously.

3. Poor Skills

Many rural people feel that farming and breeding in rural areas does not make money, so they go out to work. But without skills, once in the city they can only do manual labor, and wages are generally low. Given that income from working away from home is currently the main source of rural income, poor skills are another main reason rural people find it hard to get rich.

4. Agricultural Subsidies Favor the Big and Neglect the Small

Everyone knows that the state's support for agriculture has been increasing year by year, and in 2017 agricultural subsidies reached over a trillion. However, agricultural subsidies often support and encourage large-scale farming and breeding, but such farming and breeding households in rural areas are, after all, a minority; most are still smallholders and small-scale operations. These people need support even more, yet they often fail to meet the standards for support. Would you all agree? Will this create a Matthew effect?

It can be said that the above reasons are all main causes of why rural people find it hard to get rich, especially the fact that agricultural products are not worth much, which is the main roadblock on the path to prosperity for rural people. If agricultural products were worth money, farmers would not really care much about agricultural subsidies, since subsidies are limited after all. If agricultural products were worth money, all the other difficulties would step aside. Would you all agree? Besides the factors above, what other roadblocks do you think there are?
