Lighting Up Agriculture and Making the Ocean Shine, Hello Kitty Welcomes a Bountiful Harvest in Pingtung

The 2019 Taiwan Lantern Festival will grandly open on February 19 at Dapeng Bay in Pingtung. On the 12th, Pingtung County Magistrate Pan Meng-an launched the lighting for the 3 major themed lantern installations in the Agriculture and Ocean Lantern Area. The one-of-a-kind "Pingtung Agriculture Good Hello Kitty Special Zone," the 12-meter-tall giant farmer, and the sailboat installation with stunning projection mapping will bring the public an unprecedentedly spectacular visual experience.

Magistrate Pan Meng-an said that this year's Taiwan Lantern Festival is being held for the first time at the largest lagoon in the country. The Agriculture and Ocean Lantern Area, located diagonally in front of the Dapeng Bay aircraft viewing platform, is planned with three major theme areas. Among them, the "Agriculture Lantern Area" features a 12-meter-tall giant farmer, the giant eagle and red bean lantern installation "Eagle Soaring, Beans Rising" made from 300 kg of red beans with traceable agricultural product certification, a fairy-tale-like harvest train that circles around, and distinctive lanterns themed on the adorable Pingtung agriculture mascot, Yangbao.

Magistrate Pan Meng-an pointed out that the Ocean Lantern Area specially combines the fishery recreation industry, using sailboats as the installation. At night, with lighting arranged around the sailboats, the dazzling lights and colorful meteor tube lights outline the rhythmic lines of light on the sea surface, presenting a sailboat night performance.

In addition to the agriculture and ocean themed lantern installations, the lantern area also includes the "Pingtung Agriculture Good Hello Kitty Special Zone," authorized and designed with Sanrio. The super-popular Kitty, after last year's painted rice paddy at the Pingtung Tropical Agriculture Expo, has come to Pingtung again, wearing a bamboo hat and celebrating the agricultural harvest together with her good friends. The colorful and fun main lantern and photo spots make it feel like entering Hello Kitty's dream world, and its adorable charm is not to be missed.

During the lantern festival, the Hello Kitty Special Zone will hold a giveaway event for limited-edition fashionable agricultural trendy paper glasses. From 2/22-2/24 and 2/28-3/3, 7,000 sets will be given out to the public on site, so everyone can get cute with KITTY.
