It's the perfect time to tackle the lychee stink bug! Spraying pesticide after egg-laying is too late; releasing Anastatus wasps in spring to remove egg masses is the most effective

Preventing damage from the lychee stink bug is critical right now! The Council of Agriculture held a press conference today (the 12th) calling on farmers to carry out area-wide integrated pest management, as the lychee stink bug, which causes serious damage to lychee and longan, is preparing to lay eggs. Before lychee and longan trees bloom, conventional farmers can use chemical pesticides for control; starting in March when the flowering season begins, pesticides should no longer be applied in order to protect bees, and instead Anastatus wasps can be used for parasitism, or egg masses can be directly removed, to reduce lychee stink bug hatching. This year the Council of Agriculture will release an army of 16.6 million Anastatus wasps to comprehensively prevent damage from the lychee stink bug.
