Gladiolus Companion Plants
For gladiolus, perhaps the best companion plant is more gladiolus plants. Gladiolus does not bloom a second time from a single cut. Instead, it grows flowers from bottom to top along long leaf-like spikes. When used in floral arrangements, these spikes are usually cut off.

To have blooms all summer long, it is best to plant gladiolus corms (also called bulbs) in succession. Start a few weeks before the average last frost in your area, and plant a new batch of gladiolus corms every two weeks. Keep this up until midsummer. In this way, you can plant new plants and have blooms throughout summer and autumn.

What to plant with gladiolus? Gladiolus plants do not offer any particular benefit to their neighbors, as some flowering plants do. However, they can be planted with other brightly flowering plants to create truly spectacular color in the garden.

Some good flowering companion plants for gladiolus include Zinnia and Dahlia. Gladiolus plants like sun and well-drained sandy soil, and plants that grow well with gladiolus need the same soil conditions. In fact, basically any plant that shares the same requirements can be used.

Gladiolus plants also form a beautiful and colorful border around a vegetable garden. As long as your garden (or at least the area around it) has sandy, well-drained soil and full exposure to sunlight, your plants should be very happy.
