2019 Pingtung Tropical Agriculture Expo: A Passionate Agricultural Journey Powers the Future

The "2019 Pingtung Tropical Agriculture Expo" kicked off yesterday (the 29th) under the joint auspices of Premier Su Tseng-chang of the Executive Yuan, Council of Agriculture Minister Chen Chi-chung, and Pingtung County Magistrate Pan Meng-an. The opening ceremony warmed up the crowd with lion drums celebrating good fortune, bringing out the vibrant energy of Pingtung County's tropical agriculture.

This year's 27-hectare expo grounds feature four major highlights: painted rice paddies, a spring flower sea, a melon and fruit corridor, and technological agriculture, along with a total of 27 distinctive themed zones including land art, a coarse grain maze, an agricultural science and technology hall, the Xiangyang Renewable Green Energy Application Area, smart technology agriculture, and a photovoltaic green-energy pig barn. Through diverse approaches combined with interactive experiential formats, the expo showcases Pingtung's diverse crop breeding varieties and cultivation techniques, as well as Pingtung's agriculture, fishery, livestock, and leisure industries and distinctive cultural character.

To enhance the added value of the agricultural industry, the council this year for the first time planned a "Tropical Agricultural Science and Technology R&D Achievement Hall" at the expo grounds. With "A Passionate Agricultural Journey, Powering the Future" as its main theme, it set up three major themed areas: "Foresight Technology for Tropical Agriculture," "Smart Agriculture," and "Innovation and Incubation," displaying a total of 68 technological R&D achievements, and showcasing a smart fishery-electricity aquaculture system at the outdoor aquaculture ponds. The exhibition content integrates the council's affiliated agencies and experimental improvement stations in southern Taiwan, and invited resident manufacturers from the Agricultural Biotechnology Park, the Banana Research Institute, and the Industrial Technology Research Institute to jointly exhibit Taiwan's innovative tropical agricultural products. Through on-site introductions and demonstration performances, it concretely showcases the performance of our country's tropical agricultural industry.

The Pingtung Tropical Agriculture Expo showcases Taiwan's world-renowned tropical agricultural technology. The site also offers many great spots for family gatherings and parent-child outings with hands-on experiences and photo opportunities. All citizens nationwide are sincerely welcome to take advantage of the winter vacation and the Lunar New Year holiday to visit the expo and enjoy the spring, experiencing the abundant achievements of our country's tropical agriculture.
