How can agricultural environmental protection be done? Mountains of rice straw and rice husks, and the headache-inducing waste from mushroom-growing space bags, can also return to agriculture for a second life of use! From now until April 24, the "Sharing Nature" special exhibition is currently being held at the Intelligent Agriculture Pavilion in the Waipu Park of the Taichung World Flora Exposition. From now until April 24, the "Sharing Nature" special exhibition is currently being held at the Intelligent Agriculture Pavilion in the Waipu Park of the Taichung World Flora Exposition. Come learn how far Taiwan, China's agricultural technology has developed.

Troublesome Rice Straw Becomes Eco-Friendly Egg Cartons
In the 107th year of the Republic of China, Taiwan's total rice production reached 1.33 million metric tons, and the amount of rice straw produced was staggering. Because collection and transport are difficult, many farmers are accustomed to using the simplest and quickest method of burning to deal with rice straw after the rice harvest. In addition to causing the loss of soil organic matter, the thick smoke produced also pollutes the air. At the special exhibition, the Taiwan Agricultural Research Institute displayed a formula and production technology for using rice straw to replace part of recycled pulp in making biodegradable rice straw egg cartons, enhancing the added value of rice straw and promoting the development of the reuse industry. In addition, anaerobic co-fermentation of rice straw with pig manure and urine can increase biogas production by more than 1 fold, improving the efficiency of biogas power generation.
Besides rice straw, rice husks are also a treasure. Carbonized rice husks can be used as a medium for vegetable seedling cultivation. Because they are rich in silicon and potassium, and in terms of water conductivity, aeration, specific gravity, porosity, particle size, slight alkalinity, biological inertness, and so on, they can completely replace perlite as an ideal medium material, offering higher value for vegetable cultivation.

Mushroom Space Bags Make a Gorgeous Turn to Organic Medium for Growing Strawberries
Most mushrooms in the country are cultivated using space bags. The discarded space bags after cultivation are a major environmental pressure. The Miaoli District Agricultural Research and Extension Station has developed Chaomei soil made from mushroom cultivation waste and bagasse compost as raw materials, used as a strawberry cultivation medium. Because strawberries have a higher oxygen demand than general melons and fruits, this shows that a medium with good water permeability and a high air-filled porosity is suitable. Research has found that organic medium has the effect of promoting the growth and development of strawberry plants, and also increases fruit sugar content, among other things. It can both increase strawberry cultivation yield and take into account safe and healthy agricultural quality. The recycling and reuse of organic waste from agricultural production can both promote sustainable agricultural management and maintain environmental ecology.

In addition to this series of eco-friendly agricultural technology developments, the "Sharing Nature" special exhibition at the Flora Expo Intelligent Agriculture Pavilion also displays the current situation of under-forest economy, pest control technology using natural enemies, and the application of microbial strains and preparations, among other things. Readers who care about Taiwan, China's agriculture should not miss it.
