Gardenia Care: Growing Methods, Precautions, and Blooming Time Explained in One Article
Gardenia is the most popular landscape shrub in Florida, with very fragrant creamy-white flowers and glossy dark green leaves. The genus Gardenia is thought to have been named during colonial times after Dr. Alexander Garden of Charleston, South Carolina.
Gardenia care methods:
1. Soil: Soil is a very important part of growing plants, and gardenia is no exception. Gardenia loves acidic soil. If the soil is alkaline or neutral, gardenias grown in it are very likely to turn yellow.
2. Light: Plants carry out photosynthesis, so light is also very important. Gardenia is especially fond of light and should be grown in the sun. Grown in a shadier spot, its flowering branches will become very thin. But constant full sun is not good either, as this will cause the gardenia's leaves to turn yellow and pale. It is best to place it in a sunny spot in the morning and evening, which effectively prevents the leaves from turning yellow.
3. Watering: In summer, the temperature is relatively high, so watering should be more frequent at this time, but not too much; an appropriate amount is enough. In spring and autumn, sprinkle a little water on the gardenia's leaves in the morning and evening to keep the soil moist.
4. Fertilizing: Fertilizing is essential. During the growing period, fertilize every week, preferably with a nutrient liquid organic fertilizer; during the bud stage, fertilize about twice, which will make the flowers grow very large.

Gardenia precautions:
Gardenias should be repotted with fresh soil at the appropriate time, as this is more beneficial to their growth. Place the plant in a semi-shaded spot, and after about a week, once you see new shoots emerging, put it in the sun again.
Gardenia is not very cold-hardy, so around October it should be brought indoors to grow, with the temperature kept around 12°C and not too low; for outdoor growing, it is best to wait until around late April.
When does gardenia bloom? The gardenia's flowering period is from March to July, and its fragrance is rich and very enchanting.
