Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je yesterday (the 26th) attended the 107th year Taipei City Public Retail Markets (and Vendors) and Temporary Street Vendor Concentration Areas Guidance and Evaluation Results Awards Ceremony. Mayor Ko Wen-je pointed out that a very important goal of his term is to raise the overall standard of Taipei City's markets and night markets, and that this will be treated as a priority task of the municipal government.

In his speech, he said that the awards ceremony was held jointly with an event by the Central Region Office of the Ministry of Economic Affairs for the first time, and that this event is also something that traditional markets pay close attention to every year. In particular, this year a 5-star LOHAS famous stall appeared, namely Shidong Market, which he did not find surprising.

Mayor Ko Wen-je said that he had specifically instructed the Department of Economic Development that markets and night markets should be treated as a very important matter to be carried out during this term. Mayor Ko Wen-je mentioned that large markets have currently already been renovated, but hardware is easy to handle while software is more difficult, such as leaving no trash behind, separating dry and wet waste, and electronic transactions. His view is that if the Taipei City Government spent 20 billion yuan to renovate Huannan Market and the First Fruit and Vegetable Market, it should also spend several billion to thoroughly renovate these markets and night markets, especially to have clean toilets, and to make the overall upgrading of markets and night markets a goal.

He hopes that in the future every market in Taipei City, whether Shidong Market, Ningxia Night Market or Shilin Night Market, can move further forward, and that the standard of every market and night market can be raised to the level of Shidong Market or Ningxia Night Market as they are now, and that even this is not enough and they must be raised further.
