Unexplained Parcel Contained Contraband Meat from China; Kinmen Veterinarian Urges Handing It Over to Disease Control Authorities
The African swine fever battle situation is tense, and contraband meat from China is finding every conceivable way to slip through! Today, Kinmen Companion Animal Hospital received an unexplained parcel, and upon opening it, actually found a strip of meat from China. It immediately notified the police station to send it to disease control authorities. Peng Ming-hsing, head of the Animal Quarantine Division of the Bureau of Animal and Plant Health Inspection and Quarantine, confirmed that the meat had indeed been received and sent to the Animal Health Research Institute for testing. Ouyang Meng-shu, a veterinarian at Companion Animal Hospital, urges that if any similar situation occurs, it must be reported to disease control authorities and absolutely must not be discarded and cause contamination.

Unexplained parcel appears, Kinmen Companion Animal Hospital handles it alertly
Ouyang Meng-shu, a veterinarian working at Kinmen Companion Animal Hospital, said that after returning to the hospital following the noon break today, he found an unexplained parcel at the entrance, completely sealed and unopened. If a parcel is seen at the entrance of a veterinary hospital, it is usually an animal carcass, but upon observation this was not the case. Looking closer, the sender was "Shandong, mainland China" and the receiving location was "Wuyuan Bay, mainland China," while the courier seal was intact and had never been opened.
Unsure of the contents, he contacted the police station to come and look into it. After opening it, he actually found inside a mousetrap cage and a strip of meat from China. Ouyang Meng-shu said: "When I opened it and saw the meat strip, I directly cursed out loud. As a veterinarian, I am fully aware of how serious a problem African swine fever can cause." He immediately told the police that it absolutely must not be discarded and must be sent to inspection authorities for further testing.
A customer's kind gift, unaware that the shipping sender had stuffed in a meat strip
Ouyang Meng-shu originally thought it was an unexplained parcel maliciously abandoned, but later after asking customers at the hospital, he found that a warm-hearted customer had bought a mousetrap cage to give to the hospital and had placed it at the entrance first because the hospital was resting. However, because the parcel was completely sealed, with even the shipping barcode still fully affixed on top, the giver had no idea at all that a strip of meat from China had been placed inside, causing a false alarm.
