New Taipei Gongliao Abalone Season: New Taipei Mayor Eric Chu Invites You to Taste the Fresh, Delicious Local Flavors
To promote the carefully selected local fishery products of Gongliao District, the New Taipei City Government specially assisted the local fishermen's association in holding a limited-quantity Gongliao Abalone rush-buy event, free limited freshly grilled small abalone (jiukong), mackerel and seaweed jelly tastings and guided tours on December 15 of this year (ROC year 107) at Aodi Fishing Harbor, as well as a table-reservation event for the highly distinctive "Gongliao Abalone Health Tonic Meal." Mayor Eric Chu also attended yesterday's (the 6th) promotional press conference, welcoming the public to participate enthusiastically and taste together the freshest and most delicious seafood flavors of Gongliao.
Mayor Eric Chu stated that the Gongliao abalone is a successful case of restoration and breeding in New Taipei City in recent years. During the restoration process, he thanked many experts and scholars, the fishermen's association and fishermen friends for their support and efforts, and many young fishermen also returned to their hometowns to assist with farming, allowing the city government, in addition to supporting the aquaculture fishery industry, to successfully establish the local brand of Gongliao abalone in one stroke.
The Gongliao abalone season runs from about November to March, and it has recently entered its peak production season. Mayor Eric Chu mentioned that Gongliao abalone refers to the small abalone (jiukong) and blacklip abalone raised in the local intertidal zone of Gongliao, fed on natural seaweed. Among them, the small abalone (jiukong) has a springy, chewy texture, while the blacklip abalone is tender and sweet. In addition to jointly promoting it with food industry operators, the city government will also hold related activities on December 15 at the local Aodi Fishing Harbor, sincerely inviting the public to enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Northeast Coast while tasting the freshest Gongliao abalone.
