Low-Carbon Sustainable Homeland Certification Achieves Outstanding Results; Keelung City Government Recognizes the Efforts of All Units

In recent years, global warming has caused extreme weather to occur with increasing frequency. The Keelung City Environmental Protection Bureau, in line with the Executive Yuan Environmental Protection Administration's "Low-Carbon Sustainable Homeland Rating and Grading Certification" policy, has continued to assist villages and neighborhoods under Keelung City's jurisdiction in promoting low-carbon sustainability-related measures and in guiding the establishment of low-carbon operational functions. Through cooperation between government agencies and the public, these joint efforts have earned outstanding results in the Environmental Protection Administration's certification. Therefore, a Low-Carbon Sustainable Homeland award ceremony was held to recognize the efforts of each district chief, neighborhood chief and residents.

The Keelung City Government commended 9 units that in recent years took part in the Keelung City Low-Carbon Sustainable Homeland Certification Rating Promotion Program and obtained Silver and Bronze certification. Among them, those receiving Silver certification were the Nuannuan District Office, the Qidu District Office and Yongkang Village in Anle District, while those receiving Bronze certification were the Xinyi District Office, Changxing Village in Qidu District, Liudu Village in Qidu District, Dunan Village in Qidu District, Shijian Village in Qidu District, and Xingliao Village in Anle District.

All of the above award-winning units actively promoted energy-saving and water-saving equipment, expanded household resource recycling, regularly organized second-hand goods flea markets, advocated low-carbon folk activities, and planted native or bird- and butterfly-attracting plants on idle vacant land, walls and traffic islands.

To promote low-carbon sustainable homelands, the Executive Yuan Environmental Protection Administration continues to advance action plans around six major operational functions: ecological greening, green energy and power saving, green transportation, resource circulation, low-carbon living and sustainable operation, developing from low-carbon communities to low-carbon cities and further extending to low-carbon homelands. The core concepts of a low-carbon sustainable homeland are a sustainable environment, a sustainable economy and a sustainable society. Therefore, low-carbon communities are the seeds for promoting low-carbon sustainable homelands, taking root and thriving from there to implement low-carbon measures.
