Recruiting troops and buying horses, seeking volunteers! ~~ This afternoon we had a meeting with the director-general of Yuanli Shangguan Community and local farmers (and young people returning to the countryside too!), and we are preparing to carry out regional "historical material collection" during the summer vacation, using oral history and writing to let local elders revive their glorious years and show their rich life experiences and local historical materials.

Don't think it is very professional. We need "unprofessional you"! But people who really want to contribute a little effort to rural villages! You can unprofessionally take photos for us, unprofessionally shoot videos, and unprofessionally use all kinds of ways to present this historical material collection! After the baptism of a summer vacation, I believe you will become "a somewhat professional you" and then advance into "a very decent self!"

Why is there such a plan?

During the Japanese colonial period, it belonged to Shanggongguan of Sheling Village. After the retrocession, it became a village of its own. This area is the inlet where Fangli Creek and its various tributaries draw water from the Daan River, commonly known as Shuimen. It was named because a sluice gate was set up to control the water inlet of Yuanli Canal during the Japanese colonial period when the embankment was built. It is the youngest community in all of Taiwan, established only more than eighty years ago, gathering many ethnic groups such as Minnan, Hakka, and Pingpu, thus forming a special way of life. However, due to differences in language, ethnicity, and culture, many unwritten rules also formed locally. Because ethnic conflicts continued, even feuds occurred (there must be many Romeo and Juliet stories). Only after many processes of friction and reconciliation did the current lifestyle of Shangguan Community take shape.

Because the elders who experienced the initial establishment of "Shangguan Community" are already advanced in age, we want to seize these precious times and record every bit of this young community by chatting with local elders.
