Zongzi Charity Sale to Help Others: Renben Sanchong Youth Base Raises Operating Funds

Located in Sanchong, the Renben Youth Base offers after-school tutoring, club activities, and attentive companionship from adults. Since its establishment thirteen years ago, it has always been a "base" for young people in the surrounding community. To raise funds for the base's operations, a zongzi gift box charity sale began last Wednesday. The fundraising goal for this round is 500,000, but so far only 30% of the target has been reached. Jiang Siyu, the director of the youth base, said: "This year's charity sale is much slower than in previous years. We hope caring people will come buy zongzi so the base has operating funds and can continue to accompany young people through their growth and changes."

Sanchong Youth's After-School "Base"

More than ten years ago, a couple surnamed Lin in Sanchong cared about the lack of activity space for local youth after school. They also supported the philosophy of the Renben Education Foundation, so they generously donated a four-story detached house as an activity center for young people in the Sanchong area.

Once Renben had the hardware, it then assigned staff and began operating under the name "Base" in 2001. For more than ten years, thirty to forty young people have come to the base after school every day to eat dinner, do homework, and learn skills, all completely free of charge, with all operating funds raised by Renben.

"Our after-school tutoring is not about making children learn some impressive knowledge. It is about seeing children finally dare to tell us one day: 'I don't know how,' and so we find the most solid starting point to learn and live together with the children," said Jiang Siyu, director of the Sanchong Youth Base. At the base, besides tutoring, children can eat dinner, chat, play chess, play cards, learn guitar, play table tennis, learn dance, and learn writing. Various themed lectures are also held to broaden the children's horizons.
