Chen Guoji, director-general of Sanguang Elementary School, said that to ensure quality and prevent the delicate honey peaches from being damaged by collisions during transport, the supplying farmers not only add bubble padding inside the boxes, but also print a serial number on the outside of each box, so it is possible to trace which farm this batch of honey peaches came from, with the producing farmer responsible for quality.

The farm emphasizes "cooperative learning" by teachers, students and parents. In addition to parents and farmers cooperating with one another to sell May peaches, parents also cooperate with the school by providing the farm as an outdoor teaching site, turning everyday farming work into living teaching material for class.

Wu Honglin said that although the four tribes in the Sanguang Elementary School district are spread across different hilltops and are far apart, the residents are all related to one another. Usually the relatives are busy with farm work, and are also limited by the distance, so they rarely get to meet. Outdoor teaching instead gives the children a chance to gather with different relatives, and also lets them be immersed in farm work from an early age, giving them a deeper sense of belonging to the tribe and their hometown.

Sanguang Elementary School has launched the "Cooperative Learning Farm." In addition to hoping to improve fruit farmers' incomes, the tribal farmers also donate 20 percent of the sales proceeds to the school for teaching activities, graduation trips and emergency relief funds. Wu Honglin said that in the past, limited by funding constraints, Sanguang Elementary School students' graduation trip could only be a one-day tour within Taoyuan County. If sales go well and the school thereby raises enough funds, he hopes the children can travel to other counties and cities to broaden their horizons and outlook.

Chen Guoji said that if consumers are interested in ordering Sanguang May peaches to support the tribal children's education, they can call the school at: 03-3912230, 03-2728427 ext. 51, or go directly to the Sanguang Elementary School cooperative farm webpage at http://www.skes.tyc.edu.tw/farm/
