May 24 March Against Monsanto: Taiwan's homemakers will not be absent
On May 24, 2014, the Homemakers United Foundation Environmental Protection Foundation will simultaneously join the March Against Monsanto action taking place in 436 cities across 52 countries worldwide, with as many as 2 million participants, to protest the wrongdoing of the American agricultural biotechnology company Monsanto in biopiracy, food safety hazards and environmental pollution. It is hoped that through this transnational action, the people of Taiwan will understand the situation and demands of the international anti-GMO movement, and also become alert to the GMO foods seen everywhere in daily life in Taiwan.
In Taipei, a press conference titled "March Against Monsanto, Taiwan Will Not Be Absent" will be held that morning. After it ends, a march will pass through the Gongguan shopping district, and finally at the Water Garden Farmers' Market, a new wave of the "Give Our Children GMO-Free School Lunches" petition campaign will be announced. At the same time, there will also be an activity where people can take photos with "March Against GMO Monsanto hand signs" and check in and upload them.
In Taichung, that afternoon "Non-GMO Grassland Picnic" and "Non-GMO Short Talks" and other activities will be held at the Civic Plaza. After they end, everyone is invited to bring their own signs and walk from the plaza along Calligraphy Greenway to Hepu Market, paired with a tofu pudding-making workshop at the market, so that everyone can put this into practice through their daily diet.
In Tainan, we will launch online banners and profile pictures with local characteristics reading "GMO FREE TAINAN", so that people who cannot take part in on-site activities can expand the influence of the March Against GMO Monsanto action through the keyboard action of changing their Facebook photos.
Our foundation sincerely invites everyone to take part in the 524 action nearby, to come together to care about the impact of GMO foods on human health, society and the ecological environment, and to protect Taiwan as a GMO-free island nation.
