Atayal warrior's "turtle spirit" grows organic red-fleshed plums

In Datong Township, Yilan, there is an Atayal tribe whose residents are a group of cheerful, hardship-fearing Atayal people who make use of the uniquely favorable climate to grow natural organic red-fleshed plums. Malai and his wife Mijia run an organic farm together. Malai, now fifty-five years old, still keeps the indigenous spirit of cheerfulness and fearlessness of hardship. He is already at the age when a grandfather should be enjoying life, yet he can never sit still and stays busy all day long. Besides looking after his grandchildren, he also has to chase wild boars and shoo away monkeys to keep the vegetables and fruit from being eaten, and of course there is the most important farm work such as weeding and planting vegetables.

The first thing Malai does every day when he gets to the orchard is eat a red-fleshed plum, then mutter to himself that it is so delicious. His wife Mijia says, you might as well just eat them all yourself, no need to give me any. Malai replies: the monkeys and squirrels also come eat them on their own, and he casually picks one for his wife to try, saying only you, the monkeys, and the squirrels know how good these taste, ha ha, truly a cheerful couple.
