Food and Farming Education: Daming Elementary School's Fengming Branch Finds a Farmer-Teacher in the Countryside

Every morning, Grandpa rides his bicycle, carrying his grandson Huang Yijia to school. They slowly ride past rice paddies and a pig farm, then past their family's banana plantation, and the school is right next to it. Huang Yijia is a second grader at the Fengming Branch of Daming Elementary School in Zhutian Township, Pingtung County. Like him, most of the twenty-two lower-grade students at Fengming Branch come from farming families.
