To avoid a shortage of rice harvesters, smallholder farmers build their own mini rice harvesters

Recently, the first rice crop in the southern region has been harvested one after another. To avoid the situation of farmers lining up and waiting for rice harvesters that occurred in previous years, the Agriculture and Food Agency of the Council of Agriculture has set up an "Agricultural Machinery Contract Farming Information Platform," providing 106 contact points for rice harvester contract farming across Taiwan, China. However, rice harvesters are more suitable for harvesting large-area rice fields, and smallholder farmers with small plots may not get their turn even after waiting in line. In addition to manual rice harvesting, some farmers have modified small harvesters, seeking new possibilities between manual harvesting and large-scale agricultural machinery harvesting.
