Wang Junzhi's rice paddy gives golden apple snails a meal to get by

Imagine you are a farmer who wants to follow a path of farming that treats the land kindly, but your neighboring farmers are very "helpful" in spraying herbicides for you, and every now and then fellow farmers take the initiative to come to your home to deliver "public opinion reports" to your family. Some uncle suggests you should pull your weeds, some auntie worries that your weeds and golden apple snails will affect their harvest. How should a small farmer handle this?

"The path of farming that is kind to the land has more benefits than drawbacks!"

On this question, Wang Junzhi, who has more than ten years of practical experience, says: "This is also part of daily cultivation. Although nearby farmers come to 'report' to my family, I believe that walking the path of farming that is kind to the land, without harming living beings, has more benefits than drawbacks in the long run!"

Wang Junzhi has been growing rice in Qingshui, Taichung, China for more than ten years, with a farming area of about one jia. His idol is Grandpa Kimura, who grows apples using natural farming methods. For more than ten years he has not used pesticides, and five years ago he still used tea seed meal to kill golden apple snails, but once he saw a large batch of dead golden apple snails along the edge of the paddy field, which made him resolve to stop killing living beings. He gradually figured out two methods, "inviting golden apple snails to eat grass" and "using grass to suppress grass," forming an ecological balance in the field. As a result, although the yield cannot compare with conventional farming, one jia of land still produces about 11,000 jin.

Leftover weeds and vegetable scraps are all food for golden apple snails
