What functions do forests have? Four major ecological functions help prevent disasters and reduce losses

[Disaster-Prevention Forest Revealed] Let us reintroduce you to the disaster-prevention functions of forests

Producing oxygen: Green plants are consumers of carbon dioxide and producers of oxygen. Usually, one hectare of broad-leaved forest can consume 1000 kg of carbon dioxide and release 730 kg of oxygen in a day.

Purifying air: Experiments have proven that forest trees absorb various toxic gases at low concentrations, purifying the polluted environment.
For example, one hectare of Japanese cedar forest can absorb 60 kg of sulfur dioxide per month. Canna, Chinese rose, lilac, chrysanthemum, as well as ginkgo and black locust can also absorb sulfur dioxide.

Filtering dust: The ability of forests to adsorb dust is 75 times greater than that of bare ground. One hectare of beech forest can adsorb as much as 68 tons of dust in a year.

In addition, forests play a very important role in water conservation, soil and water retention, windbreaks and sand fixation, and climate regulation.

Experience at home and abroad has proven that if a relatively large country or region has a forest coverage rate of over 30%, and the distribution is relatively even, then the ecological environment of that country or region will be relatively superior, and agricultural and livestock production will be relatively stable.

"Typhoons", "heavy rain", and "mudslides" seem to be everyone's shared memory of disasters. In recent years, the climate has also begun to show obvious changes. How should humanity face the increasing number of extreme rainfall events, and how should we position ourselves? When going out for recreation on holidays, while getting close to mountains and water, we may also be placing ourselves within disaster risk. Disaster prevention and rescue is something that must be faced by everyone, adults and children alike. Follow the Luodong Nature Education Center to learn about the flood prevention and disaster reduction services provided by forests, understand the mechanisms and causes of soil and water disasters, and then find ways to prevent disasters, reduce disasters, and avoid danger. From this day on, we will become disaster-prevention vanguards. Disaster prevention is not hard to understand at all!
