Consumers' Foundation finds red beans and black beans with pesticide residues exceeding limits in random inspection

The Consumers' Foundation recently conducted pesticide random inspections on 60 food items including beans, cilantro, chili peppers and shiitake mushrooms. Today (6/9) it announced the inspection results: two red bean samples and one black bean sample had pesticide residues exceeding limits, seven samples were found to contain pesticides within permitted standards, but four of those contained more than two types of pesticides. Zheng Zhengyong, professor emeritus of the Department of Horticulture at National Taiwan University, said, "Eating pesticides has become a trend." He believes that consumers must speak out collectively and demand a system that can trace the source of ingredients, in order to change this trend.
