Ultra-rare artillery position ruins only at the New Taipei City Military Village Cultural Park
Come play hide-and-seek at the village! The most completely preserved and largest military village in northern Taiwan is right here at the Air Force Sanchong First Village! Following last Saturday's (the 10th) opening banquet event, which drew six thousand visitors within two days, the official opening ceremony was held on the 14th, specially inviting the Qingtian Military Village Choir to lead with their rich, steady voices in performing classic choral songs such as "Anthem of the Republic of China" and "The Nation," evoking the military village nostalgia of more than sixty years ago. The thunderous drumming of the Longyi Association Lion Drum Troupe resounded through the park, lively and festive. Red and white round balloons symbolizing peace and joy poured forth from a large cauldron, echoing the community mothers cooking sweet tangyuan on site, letting visitors taste the warm sweetness of the winter sun amid the joyful atmosphere of the opening celebration.
New Taipei City Mayor Chu Li-luan stated that the Air Force Sanchong First Village has a total area of 1.38 hectares and is currently the only remaining Air Force anti-aircraft artillery military village in the northern region. In 2012 it was designated as a "Cultural Park for the Preservation of Old Military Villages of the National Armed Forces," and it is also the first case of military village cultural heritage in New Taipei City. With funding from the Ministry of National Defense and the Bureau of Cultural Heritage of the Ministry of Culture, together with the city government, a total of 150 million yuan was invested to begin restoring the long-neglected and structurally unsound military village housing at Air Force Sanchong First Village. The park's greatest feature is the anti-aircraft artillery position built during the Japanese colonial period, and the tunnel used for storing ammunition and serving as a bunker is an even rarer relic and a unique characteristic of the village. In the future it will serve as the "New Taipei City Military Village Cultural Park," revitalizing and preserving the military village culture of the past.
The Air Force Sanchong First Village formerly served as an anti-aircraft artillery position, with a total of 6 anti-aircraft gun emplacements built. After restoration, 2 gun emplacement foundation ruins were successively discovered in the park, making it quite unique. The underground tunnel formerly used for storing ammunition and serving as a bunker is even more distinctive, with a total of 10 entrances and exits. Located underground and only wide enough for one person to pass through, it adds to its mysterious character. Walking through it is like entering a secret passage, and it was the secret base where villagers played and explored as children. Now, with the addition of digital technology assistance, fifth-grade young docents from Guangxing Elementary School today invited the mayor and distinguished guests to experience a tunnel tour (360° panoramic "Historical Testimony" and AR experience "Tunnel Chronicles") through the "Park Digital Tour Guide APP," immersing themselves in the sound-and-light spectacle of the wartime era. The park is open daily from 10:00 to 18:00 (closed on Mondays). For more event information, please visit the official website at www.military-village.tw.
