Dioxin levels in hairy crabs exported from China to Taiwan, China exceed the limit by as much as two-tenths! Operators sell them off the books, with the crabs flowing to Keelung's Kan-a-ding fish market and Miaoli farms

The scandal of unscrupulous operators sneaking out dioxin-tainted hairy crabs imported from China continues to widen. The figure of 15 metric tons originally announced by the Food and Drug Administration climbed higher after days of investigation! Today the FDA announced 5 additional batches of hairy crabs with excessive dioxin, totaling 40 tons, and that operators had illicitly sold 9,312.6 kg, mainly flowing into Keelung's Kan-a-ding fish market and Miaoli farms. The FDA issued a fine of as much as 116.8 million yuan, suspended the operators for one year, making this the largest fine in history among cases involving imported food with a letter of commitment for prior release.
