Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je attends the opening press conference of the Mitsui Former Warehouse
Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je attended the opening press conference for the former warehouse of Mitsui & Co., Ltd. at noon on the 31st. In his remarks, he said that the Mitsui Warehouse is one of the few buildings that still retains the Mitsui Group's diamond-shaped trademark. After more than two years of restoration, it will officially open on November 1. This opening will still focus mainly on exhibition space, and for the Mitsui Warehouse document exhibition, thanks go to Mitsui & Co. for providing a great deal of first-hand material, making this exhibition clearer in its cultural and historical context.
In addition, Mayor Ko Wen-je also mentioned that the reopening of the Mitsui Warehouse is part of the West District Gateway Project. From the first evening after taking office, it began with the demolition of the Zhongxiao West Road dedicated bus lane, which had not been used for more than 8 years, becoming the starting point of the West District Gateway Project.
Mayor Ko Wen-je further pointed out that after the demolition of the Kuo-Kuang Motor Transport terminal, the Mitsui Warehouse was moved back and rebuilt, including the completion of the turning bay and bus stop of the entire Traffic 6 Plaza (Travel Plaza). As things look now, the only part of the entire West District Gateway Project remaining is the Railway Police Bureau. He hopes the relevant departments will budget in advance and plan the park, so that after the Railway Police Bureau moves out in June of next year (2019) and is demolished in July, the park can be built immediately.
Mayor Ko Wen-je said that the West District Gateway Project is Taiwan's national gateway. Just as Paris, France has the Arc de Triomphe, Taipei, Taiwan also has the North Gate. He also asked that work continue on the remaining unfinished parts, so that in the future a more beautiful North Gate can be presented to the public.
