China's first environmental-ecology theater production transforms into a leopard cat, accusing roadkill of harming wildlife
Mitigating roadkill is everyone's responsibility! According to Ministry of Transportation statistics, Taiwan, China ranks 13th in the world in road density per square kilometer, yet its average number of cars is the highest in the world. Under such dense traffic, at least a hundred protected species animals have died in car accidents over the past six years.
To mitigate the threat of animal roadkill while also ensuring the driving safety of road users, the Directorate General of Highways collaborated with the Endemic Species Research Institute of the Council of Agriculture, focusing on provincial highways in areas such as Miaoli, Taichung and Nantou as the main improvement sections. In addition to identifying roadkill hotspots, they also set up an "early warning system" to remind drivers to slow down and reduce roadkill. At the same time, they also collaborated with arts groups to create the country's first ecological theater production, reminding the public to pay attention to the roadkill issue.

The concept of "yielding to pedestrians" must be established first for there to be an opportunity to mitigate roadkill
Regarding the advancement of various plans, Lin De-en emphasized that a fairly high proportion of animal roadkill occurs due to the negligence of road users. In order to enable more citizens to face this issue squarely, he hopes that domestic drivers can first establish the concept of "yielding to pedestrians" and start by changing their own driving behavior, so that roadkill and other ecological environment problems can be further improved.
