This vegetable truck is so unique! A slashie uncle and a tribal auntie make the rounds collecting wild vegetables, hatching dreams in the countryside

At six in the morning, a vegetable truck loaded with styrofoam boxes sets out from Guangfu, Hualien, heading deep into the tribes to collect vegetables. It crosses the Coastal Mountain Range to Fengbin, then returns to Guangfu and Ruisui, and continues north all the way to Ji'an. With Hualien's long, narrow terrain and winding mountain roads, by the time the vegetables are all collected, it is already past noon.

Lin Tzu-hui, who calls himself the fake uncle of the tribe, started running "The Vegetable Seller of the Tribe" half a year ago, working with five small organic farmers in the tribe to collect vegetables and ship them far away to an online customer base in Taipei. He doesn't just sell vegetables; he also sells stories, letting people glimpse the scenery of life in the tribe.

As soon as he gets in the car, he says the window is broken and can't be closed, so the chilly early-morning wind of Hualien keeps pouring into the cabin; when an afternoon downpour suddenly arrives, he hurriedly grabs the quilt in the cabin and wedges it into the car door as a makeshift curtain against the rain. He laughs and says there's a technique to it: it can't block the rearview mirror, and the quilt fluttering in the wind can't affect other vehicles. This is like a microcosm of his life in the tribe, not well-off, yet able to find joy in it, peaceful and at ease.
