Fushan Rice Pudding Wins National Championship, Toyota Liu Ji Takes Second, Black Head Rice Pudding Third
Competing for the best rice pudding! To preserve and promote the value of traditional rice foods and boost rice consumption nationwide, the Agriculture and Food Agency held the "Taiwan's Number One Bowl - Ultimate Rice Pudding Championship," attracting 57 domestic businesses to register. Entrants were required to use "Taichung Sen 197" rice with a traceability certificate, and products had to be priced under 50 yuan. In the end, "Fushan Rice Pudding" from Kaohsiung City won the championship with its authentic old-time flavor, earning unanimous praise from the judges, while "Toyota Liu Ji" from Hualien County with its traditional Hakka savory rice pudding and "Black Head Rice Pudding" from Changhua City took second and third place respectively. (Winners list at the end of the article).
Fun fact: "Taichung Sen 197" is a new inari rice variety bred by the Taichung Agricultural Research and Extension Station after a gap of 30 years. "Taichung Sen 197" has good environmental tolerance, a high head rice rate, and good quality. Most importantly, rice generally needs to be stored for over a year before it is suitable for processing into foods such as rice pudding, but "Taichung Sen 197" requires at least 3 months less storage time than ordinary rice varieties, making it easier for businesses to carry out processing in a shorter time.
