Taichung World Flora Exposition's "Forest House" promotes domestic bamboo and wood materials, creating a win-win for the environment and industry

To promote domestic bamboo and wood materials, the Taichung City Government invited the Forestry Bureau and the Experimental Forest Management Office of National Taiwan University to create a "Forest House" filled with the rustic fragrance of Taiwan's trees in the Houli Forest Park, allowing the public to experience the beauty of Taiwan's wood. The exhibition space was unveiled yesterday (the 25th), and the exhibition space is constructed entirely from local wood and bamboo materials. Every panel, every construction detail, and every wooden house is the crystallization of Taiwan's beautiful wood and bamboo materials and exquisite craftsmanship. It is hoped that through the flora exposition, the beauty of Taiwan's wood can be seen at home and abroad, creating a win-win for the environment and industry.

The Taichung City Government stated that the Forest House brings together 8 private businesses using domestic wood and bamboo materials, including the Wood Utilization Practice Factory of the Experimental Forest Management Office of National Taiwan University, Kun Jin Industrial, Kun Yi Industrial, Zheng Chang Sawmill, De Feng Wood Industry, Da Zang United Architects, Wang Liang Wood Flooring, and Zhu Lai Cultural Creativity. Each has contributed its signature strengths to jointly create an integrated design exhibition of domestic materials.

The exhibition space is constructed entirely from local wood and bamboo materials. Every panel, every construction detail, and every wooden house is the crystallization of Taiwan's beautiful wood and bamboo materials and exquisite craftsmanship, expanding the scope of use and value of domestic wood and bamboo materials, increasing the wood self-sufficiency rate, and creating win-win value for the environment and industry.

The Forestry Bureau stated that domestic wood and bamboo materials have a wide range of applications. Whether structural timber, or wall panels and flooring for interior decoration, or used to make rain screen siding, furniture, musical instruments, etc., they all perform excellently. In addition to high-quality wood and bamboo materials, the industry has also accumulated mature technology and products. It is hoped that through the flora exposition, the domestic forestry industry can be promoted, and the public can be educated about the benefits of using domestic wood and bamboo materials, promoting local production and local consumption, reducing carbon footprint, and experiencing the charm of domestic green building materials.

In addition, the Forestry Bureau also sponsored 2,562 Taiwan cedar and incense cedar thinning logs for the flora exposition, to be used as materials for landscape facilities and installation art. After the exhibition period ends, the domestic materials will continue to be reused, with some donated to schools to make desks and chairs, or relocated to tribal communities to be made into crafts.
