This small vegetable is called fennel (Foeniculum vulgare), some people dislike its flavor, but I really like it, especially fennel stewed with fish, which is truly delicious, and fennel is not necessarily something you often find in the vegetable market, sometimes when you do find it the price fluctuates, 12 yuan per jin is also possible.

And fennel can be eaten in many different ways; besides the stewed fish and soup just mentioned, it can also be served as a cold salad or used as dumpling filling, very delicious and nutritious, it contains more vitamins and carotene, and its fruit is what we call xiaohuixiang (small fennel), in addition its roots, stems and leaves can all be used as medicine, with effects of strengthening the stomach, regulating qi and dispelling cold, so it can be said that the whole plant is a treasure.

And if you like eating it but cannot often buy it, then why not plant it yourself in a flower pot? Fennel is generally propagated by sowing seeds, scatter a handful of seeds and a whole patch will grow, it can reach a height of about 50 cm, and generally we can harvest it at around 30 cm, picking and eating as we go.

For potted fennel, we can choose a larger flower pot; some gardening friends directly choose a large foam box for planting, and that is also fine. As for the variety, it is recommended to choose one that can be cut repeatedly, so that one planting allows multiple harvests, there are no special requirements for the soil, soil with good permeability is enough.

Fennel has strong regeneration ability and prefers a cool environment, so spring and autumn are very suitable for planting it, its optimum growth temperature is 15-25 degrees, it is relatively drought-tolerant and slightly cold-tolerant, and can grow normally above 5 degrees, if water, fertilizer and light are all sufficient, it can be served on the table in less than 40 days.

It is recommended to plant several flower pots at once, so when the fennel matures, just grab a handful from a few pots and it is basically enough for one meal.
