Hydrangea, also known as bigleaf hydrangea or ziyang flower, is a deciduous shrub in the Saxifrage family. Many hydrangeas are planted in ordinary parks and gardens, and now everyone grows them in small courtyards, on terraces, or in balcony flower pots, where they look very beautiful, with rich and varied colors. How do you propagate hydrangeas, and how can you grow a beautiful pot of hydrangeas?

A little trick for growing hydrangeas: one stem cutting is enough to propagate a pot, with lush growth and big, beautiful blooms!

Hydrangea cutting methods and techniques

Hydrangeas are fairly easy to propagate from cuttings. If relatives or friends happen to have a mother plant, you can cut some stems back, about ten cm or so in length, with one or two growth buds on each stem, and try rooting them yourself.

Xiaoya has tried a little cutting trick: choosing stems that are a bit more tender and green gives a higher survival rate for cuttings, and they root more easily than stems that have already become woody.

The rooting medium is very flexible; ordinary garden soil or sand both work for cuttings. After cutting, do not put them in the sun. Place them in a ventilated, shady spot, and keep the potting soil moist but not waterlogged.

Friends who like hydrangeas can give it a try in autumn and winter; you might just succeed with the cuttings, and roots will grow in just over ten days.

One stem cutting can fill a pot, and you can propagate many small seedlings. Once the seedlings grow larger, they can be transplanted into pots.

That is how Xiaoya did the cuttings, and now many pots of hydrangeas have been propagated on the balcony.

Hydrangeas grow very fast. Cuttings taken this year can bloom next year. As long as you use a slightly larger pot and somewhat fertile soil, water promptly whenever you see the potting soil has dried out, and keep enough light, they will grow quickly and bloom big and beautiful.

Hydrangeas are also fairly cold-tolerant. When light snow falls, as long as the temperature is around zero degrees, they can be planted in the courtyard, and the blooms come in beautiful masses.

The temperature now is very suitable for cuttings. Flower lovers who like them should give it a try and root a beautiful pot of hydrangeas.
