There are many common problems when caring for potted plants at home, and the most frequent ones are dim light, no time to look after the plants, or not knowing much about plants.

The following indoor plants are not only easy to grow, but can also tolerate low-light conditions and grow vigorously in partial shade. They do not need frequent care and have good drought tolerance, making them very suitable for gardening beginners.

1. Silver Queen (Aglaonema 'Silver Queen')

Silver Queen adapts very well to its environment and can stay evergreen all year round. It is a tropical foliage plant originally from Southeast Asia, and has now been cultivated into a popular indoor foliage plant worldwide.

Silver Queen grows well in low-light conditions and actually fears strong sun; it keeps its leaves beautiful in bright light. Be sure to grow it in a well-draining, loose and airy sandy soil. It does not need frequent watering during care; simply water thoroughly once the soil has dried out. Note, however, that all parts of it are toxic, and be careful not to irritate your skin.

2. Snake Plant (Sansevieria)

The snake plant is especially suited to being kept in dark corners of the home. It grows well with just a proper amount of light each day. Its variegated leaves look a little like tiger stripes, and there are many varieties, some with golden edges. It is especially suitable for growing in the bedroom.

The snake plant is extremely drought-tolerant and shade-tolerant. It is suited to sandy soil, and when kept indoors it should not be watered frequently; keep it in a warm, dry environment all year round. At night it even releases oxygen and absorbs carbon dioxide, helping to purify harmful gases indoors.

3. Heartleaf Philodendron (Philodendron hederaceum)

In the photo above, the one on the left is the heartleaf philodendron and the one on the right is the pothos. Can you tell the difference between the two?

Both the heartleaf philodendron and the pothos are very common indoor potted plants, especially easy to grow and not fussy about their environment. The heartleaf philodendron has very beautiful heart-shaped leaves and grows well even in low-light conditions. It adapts to its environment even better than pothos, has excellent climbing ability, and its stems and leaves keep growing longer.

To care for the heartleaf philodendron, keep it in a warm, humid environment all year round, water it regularly, and avoid the soil staying dry for long periods.

It is a variety of philodendron, and other plants of the same genus are also very shade-tolerant, such as the common Golden Diamond (Dieffenbachia), Little Angel (Philodendron 'Little Angel'), Green Emerald and Red Emerald, among others.

4. Peace Lily (Spathiphyllum)

The peace lily is an especially lovely indoor plant. It grows well with bright light each day, and can also survive in the bathroom.

The peace lily likes a warm, dry environment all year round, has low water needs, and simply needs the soil watered thoroughly once it has dried out.

5. Alocasia (Alocasia species)

Alocasias have very large, colorful leaves that can bring a lot of natural splendor to offices and homes. They grow well in very little light and do not need frequent care; they can grow well even placed in a corner, making them very suitable for gardening beginners.

Caring for alocasias is especially simple: water regularly and avoid the soil becoming overly wet. In winter, protect them from freezing; just keep the minimum care temperature above 5°C.
