Hydrangea, also called French hydrangea or ajisai, is a deciduous shrub in the Saxifrage family. Many hydrangeas are planted in ordinary parks and gardens, and now everyone grows them in small yards, on terraces, or in flower pots on balconies, where they look very beautiful too, with rich and varied colors. How do you propagate hydrangea, and how can you grow a beautiful pot of hydrangea?

One little trick for growing hydrangea: a single branch can be used to root a whole pot, growing lushly and blooming big and beautiful!

Hydrangea cutting methods and tips

Hydrangea is fairly easy to propagate from cuttings. If a relative or friend happens to have a mother plant, you can cut some branches, about 10 cm long, each with one or two growth nodes, and try rooting them yourself.

Xiaoya has tried a little cutting trick: choose branches that are more tender and green, and the survival rate of the cuttings is higher; they root more easily than branches that have already become woody.

The rooting medium is very flexible; ordinary garden soil or sand can both be used for cuttings. After planting the cuttings, do not put them in the sun; place them in a ventilated, shady spot, and keep the potting soil moist but not waterlogged.

Friends who like hydrangeas can give it a try in autumn or winter; it may just root successfully, with roots growing in just over ten days.

One branch can root one pot, and you can propagate many small seedlings; once the seedlings grow bigger, they can be transplanted into pots.

That is how Xiaoya does cuttings, and now many pots of hydrangea have been propagated on the balcony.

Hydrangea grows very fast. A seedling rooted this year can bloom the next year. As long as you use a slightly larger pot and somewhat fertile soil, water promptly whenever you see the potting soil has dried out, and keep it in sufficient light, it will grow rapidly and bloom big and beautiful.

Hydrangea is also fairly cold-tolerant. When light snow falls, as long as the winter temperature is around 0°C, it can be planted in the courtyard, blooming in beautiful sheets.

The temperature now is very suitable for cuttings. Flower lovers who like it should give it a try and root a beautiful pot of hydrangea.
