The 3rd Southern Food and Farming Alliance Forum: promoting a new "food" era of friendly ecology and friendly animals

The Southern Food and Farming Education Vision Forum is held in Tainan for the first time

The 3rd Southern Food and Farming Education Vision Forum will be held on October 28, 2018 (Sun) from 8:40 to 12:30 am at National University of Tainan. The organizers, the Contemporary Animal Thought Reading Group and the Southern Food and Farming Education Alliance, will collaborate under the theme "Toward a Friendly Animal and Ecological Agricultural Production Model." Wu Tsung-hsien, convener of the Contemporary Animal Thought Reading Group and associate professor in the Department of Public Administration at National University of Tainan, has invited four expert speakers to give talks in Tainan.

Applying expertise, friendly agriculture, expert sharing not to be missed

This forum has invited Wang I-kang, associate professor in the Department of Ecology and Environmental Resources at National University of Tainan; Liao Chen-yuan, secretary-general of the Taiwan Agricultural Standards Association; Chang Heng-chia, director of the Golden Bat Ecology Hall; and Chien Yu-ju, assistant professor in the Department of Sociology at National Taiwan University, to give talks on four systems: "shallow-pond milkfish farming," "humane raising of laying hens and pigs," "conservation of the golden mouse-eared bat," and "artificial spat-setting technology for oyster farming."

This forum has also invited Lee Tui-chih, deputy chairperson of the Council of Agriculture, and Li Chien-yu, acting director-general of the Tainan City Government Agriculture Bureau, to attend, engage in dialogue with practitioners, and invite audience interaction. In addition to enhancing the public's understanding of sustainable agricultural production systems, this also puts into practice the public's power to oversee the government.

The Southern Food and Farming Alliance joins hands with the Contemporary Animal Thought Reading Group to advocate a new "food" era of friendly ecology and friendly animals

Yu Tzu-ang, convener of the Southern Food and Farming Alliance, said that the Southern Food and Farming Education Vision Forum has been held twice in the past. The first forum held in 2015 focused on promoting local food and farming education from the perspective of "public-private collaboration," and achieved the establishment of a cross-agency integration platform by the two cities of Kaohsiung and Tainan, which jointly read out a pledge to the "Food and Farming Education Declaration." The second forum held last year invited Democratic Progressive Party Kaohsiung mayoral primary candidates, Kaohsiung city councilors, and representatives of relevant public departments to present friendly agriculture policies on site. On the eve of the expected passage of the Food and Farming Education Act (draft) this year, it is all the more important to call for not underestimating the new "food" era of friendly ecology and friendly animals.

Wu Tsung-hsien, associate professor in the Department of Public Administration at National University of Tainan, said that conventional farming methods pose a great threat to humanity through their impact on animals' original habitats, the linkages between ecosystems, and the water and air pollution they cause. Therefore, he hopes that this forum will open an opportunity for cooperation among social reformers, farmers, and officials, so that they can work together to find an agricultural production system that is friendly to animals and the environment.

Information about this forum has been successively published on the [Southern Country Tomorrow's Dining Table - Southern Food and Farming Alliance] fan page. The organizers sincerely invite people who care about this land of Taiwan to sign up enthusiastically at http://t.cn/EhiDGYW.
