How do you grow grapes on a balcony? Master two tricks for an effortless bumper harvest

The constant renewal of planting and care experience and techniques has gradually broadened the thinking of many friends living in cities. For example, in the past when we talked about balcony planting, we meant only ornamental flowers and plants. But now it is completely different - many people even grow fruit at home, and grapes have become the most popular plant among them. So, do you also want to grow some grapes at home? And what clever tricks and precautions are there for growing grapes on a balcony? In today's article we have distilled the experience into pure practical gold and are giving it all to you at once!
How exactly do you grow grapes? I have a method:
Actually, grapes are just another plant, so why do so few people grow them on balconies? The reason is simply that they cannot find a suitable method. The most suitable way to grow grapes on a balcony is stem cuttings. It is very simple to do: select a mature and healthy grape stem, ideally around 20 cm long, and be sure to leave a few buds on the stem, so the planted grape stem will root more easily. The cut stem needs to be disinfected and then soaked for two days in rooting agent, which makes rooting easier.
The specific process is simply these 4 steps:
1. Preliminary preparation
Besides selecting and preparing the stems, the pot and soil are also things we need to consider in advance. For planting grapes, you can choose clay pots, wooden pots, plastic flower pots and other containers with good breathability. In the early stage you can use a smaller pot; of course, after about two years, as the grape root system becomes more developed, you will still need to switch to a larger pot. As for the soil, grapes like loose, breathable, fertile loam rich in organic matter and calcium. We can use a nutrient soil mixed from 1/3 rotted horse or cow manure and 2/3 garden soil, fill it into the pot and firm it down, water it thoroughly, and plant once the surface has dried and loosened.
2. The specific cutting operation
Once the soil is ready, you can insert the prepared grape stem into the soil. However, note that it should be "one radish per hole" - that is, plant only one grape plant per pot, not too many, otherwise when it bears fruit there will be problems because it is too crowded. And if the planting is too dense, it is also not good for the grapes to climb.
3. Pay attention to water and fertilizer
As for watering, although grapes like water, if grown in pots you still need to prevent waterlogging, and the amount of water should be judged according to the actual condition of the grapes. Generally, if it is hot in summer, you can water about once every 2 days, and as autumn arrives and the temperature keeps dropping, you can water just 1-2 times per week.
As for fertilizer, potted grapes have a very high fertilizer demand, so they need frequent fertilizing. Grapes in the growing period should be fertilized once every five days. Be careful not to get fertilizer on the grape stems or leaves when fertilizing. After the grapes bear fruit, the amount of fertilizer should be increased even more. Only by timely replenishing nutrients will the grapes grown be sweeter and more fragrant.
4. Setting up a trellis is quite important
How can you grow grapes without setting up a trellis! Some people build trellises on the balcony so the grapes can climb along them. Remember not to use iron or other trellises that conduct heat quickly; it is best to use wooden ones.
