Mock orange and jasmine are two kinds of potted flowers that everyone loves to grow. Their leaves are emerald green and pleasing to the eye. Although the plants are not large, they are very suitable for growing indoors, and both bloom with especially fragrant, lovely flowers. As soon as they bloom, the whole house is filled with fragrance. Now that we have entered late autumn and winter is coming soon, with daytime temperatures generally around ten degrees, how should jasmine and mock orange be watered and cared for in autumn and winter so they can safely overwinter and grow vigorously?

How to care for mock orange and jasmine in winter: one little trick for lush green leaves and a pot bursting with blooms!

Overwintering care tips for mock orange

Mock orange comes from tropical regions, so it is relatively cold-sensitive. Therefore, before frost arrives, it should be moved indoors in time, placed on a sunny balcony or by a bay window. It must not be placed next to a heater, nor exposed to air blowing directly from an air conditioner vent.

However, the window should be opened often for ventilation, as long as the cold wind does not blow directly on it. It can grow normally at around ten degrees, and as long as the indoor temperature does not drop below five degrees, it can overwinter successfully.

At the current temperature of around ten degrees, if the potting soil is dry, it should still be watered in time, so the leaves do not curl and dry out from lack of water. When the temperature drops below five degrees, Xiaoya has a little method to help mock orange overwinter successfully: you can put a "coat" on it, that is, cover it with a larger transparent plastic bag, place it where cold wind does not blow, reduce watering, keep the soil from being too moist, and stop fertilizing. This way, even in the north, it can overwinter successfully and the leaves will still be lush and green.

Overwintering care tips for jasmine

Compared with mock orange, jasmine is a bit more cold-tolerant. Although it is also one of the flowers that are not cold-resistant, as long as the temperature does not drop below zero degrees, it can overwinter successfully.

Before winter arrives, give it a proper simple pruning to reduce nutrient consumption in winter. When the outdoor temperature is above five degrees, jasmine can be kept outdoors for a period of time. Appropriate cold air and ample outdoor sunlight can improve its cold resistance. When the temperature drops to five degrees, jasmine can be moved indoors for care.

Indoors, it should also be kept in ample light. At around ten-plus degrees, it can be watered normally, but when the temperature is low, only water it a little; there is no need to water thoroughly. When the temperature drops below zero degrees, we can also cover it with a plastic bag, open it during the day when the sun comes out to let it breathe, and cover it again at night. This way it can also overwinter safely and bloom abundantly the next year.
