More and more people are fond of potted flowers, and the variety of flowers they grow is increasing too, so much so that the balcony is almost too full to hold them all. Common flowers include pothos, spider plant, snake plant, and Chinese rose. Although they are all fairly easy to care for, they are, after all, very common. The 3 flowers below are not "a dime a dozen" potted plants; they are beautiful and easy to care for, and they look lovely in the home!

The first potted plant: peace lily (Spathiphyllum). The peace lily is a fairly shade-tolerant plant. Generally speaking, growing a peace lily requires at least 73% shading. In summer, 80% shading is even better. However, the peace lily must not be kept in too shady a spot for a long time. If the light level is too low, the leaves will fade in color and growth will be stunted.

Potted peace lilies can be propagated by division and by sowing. A vigorously growing plant can be divided about once every two years, usually in spring when repotting or in autumn. Before new buds appear, tip the plant out of the pot, remove the old growing medium, and divide the rhizome at the base of the clump into several clumps (each clump containing more than 3 buds), then replant them in fresh growing medium.

The second potted plant: banana shrub (Michelia figo). For banana shrub grown in the ground, the growing medium should preferably be slightly shaded, loose in texture, well-drained, lime-free, and slightly acidic soil; it also grows fairly well in neutral soil. Every spring, banana shrub should be pruned and shaped, removing diseased and pest-damaged branches, dead branches, and overly dense branches to maintain good ventilation and light penetration. After the flowers fade, remove the spent flowers promptly to reduce nutrient consumption.

Potted banana shrub likes moisture but fears waterlogging, so watering should follow the principle of "water when dry, stop when wet." In spring, water once every 1~2 days. In dry, windy weather, sprinkle water on the ground around the pot to maintain a certain level of air humidity; in summer, when temperatures are high, water generously, watering once in the morning and once in the evening and sprinkling the ground as well; on stormy days, promptly pour off any accumulated water in the pot; in autumn, according to actual conditions, simply keeping the potting soil moist is enough.

The third potted plant: daisy. Colorful daisies are a delight to the eye wherever they are placed, and they are the beloved favorite of many botanical gardens and flower lovers. Daisies like cool, shady spots and are not very demanding about soil, so many places are suitable for growing them, and they are not difficult to plant. Daisies like sunlight; with good sunshine they bloom well, otherwise the plants tend to grow leggy, which affects flowering.

This is a gathering place for flower lovers, sharing tips on the care of potted flowers. You are welcome to follow and join the conversation.
