Tainan City MRT Engineering Office inaugurated; Phase 1 Blue Line expected to break ground in 109

The Tainan City MRT Engineering Office held its inauguration ceremony yesterday (22nd) morning, with Mayor Li Meng-yen personally presiding, symbolizing that Tainan's advanced transportation has entered a new era. Mayor Li Meng-yen said that the inauguration represents Tainan moving toward joining the ranks of MRT cities, and that in the future the MRT Engineering Office's budget and staffing will gradually be put in place, so that dedicated personnel with dedicated responsibility and focus can push forward MRT construction; he expressed hope that under the promotion of a dedicated agency, with professionalism as the backing, the timetable can be accelerated even more.

Tainan City's advanced transportation system began planning as early as 102; on November 24 of last year (106), the preparatory office of the Tainan City MRT Engineering Office was established and began preliminary work. Among these, the Blue, Green, and Red lines of the priority network have been included in the second-phase special budget of the Executive Yuan's Forward-Looking Infrastructure Development Program, with total funding of 75 billion yuan. Among them, the first-phase Blue Line runs from Daqiao Station in the north to Datong Station in the south, with a total length of 8.6 km, and is expected to be completed in 114. This route passes through Yongkang and the East District, which are densely populated areas. In the future, by connecting with Taiwan Railways transportation, it can effectively utilize transport capacity and ease traffic pressure.

Mayor Li Meng-yen said he hopes the first route of the Tainan MRT can break ground on schedule in 109 and be completed in 114, providing citizens with comfortable, high-quality transportation vehicles as soon as possible. It is worth mentioning that the Red Line will connect with the Kaohsiung MRT, forming a single living circle with Kaohsiung and achieving prosperous co-development of the two cities. Mayor Li Meng-yen believes that the construction of the advanced transportation system will certainly improve citizens' quality of life and overall urban development, allowing Tainan to undergo a complete transformation and create a new atmosphere.
