How do you care for a Christmas cactus so it bursts with blooms? Master five "reasonable" points and the flowers will cascade like a waterfall

The Christmas cactus blooms in winter, which is why flower lovers adore it. With proper care, it can bloom from September through May of the following year. Many flower lovers say the Christmas cactus is hard to grow, but that is really just because they have not mastered the care techniques. Remember these care points, and your Christmas cactus can also burst with blooms, with flowers cascading like a waterfall!
Xiaoye tells you: master five "reasonable" points and blooming is no problem
1. Reasonable light
The Christmas cactus is a short-day plant that likes semi-shade, semi-sun scattered light and hates direct blazing sun. During care, pay attention to shading and keep good ventilation. To make short-day flowers like the Christmas cactus bloom abundantly, you must give them a continuous dark environment of more than 12 hours every day 40-70 days before flowering, as this helps flower bud formation.
If you grow it indoors, leaving the lights on for a long time at night will also affect its blooming. It is recommended to cover the Christmas cactus with a cardboard box or black plastic bag at night.
2. Reasonable temperature
Before the Christmas cactus blooms, the nighttime temperature should preferably stay at 10-13°C, so to ensure blooming, it is best to place it outdoors from early autumn until before frost. After flower buds form, the nighttime temperature can rise to 16-21°C, and the daytime temperature should be kept at 21°C or slightly higher.
3. Reasonable watering
Water the Christmas cactus by keeping the potting soil moderately moist. Especially after it buds, be sure to wait until the surface soil in the pot is dry before watering, and do not keep watering heavily. If the potting soil is too wet, the flower buds are likely to drop. But watering too little and letting the potting soil get too dry can also cause bud drop.
In October, you can fill the Christmas cactus's tray with water, place pebbles on it, and then set the flower pot on top, so you do not have to worry about it failing to get water. In November, resume watering, which helps it bloom.
4. Reasonable fertilizing
Normally, apply a general microbial flower fertilizer once every 10-15 days, and stop fertilizing during the high-temperature period in summer. From the start of autumn to before flowering, fertilizer and water should be given continuously. Before flowering, apply 1-2 extra rounds of phosphorus fertilizer or general microbial flower fertilizer, which helps bud formation.
5. Reasonable pruning
The Christmas cactus grows relatively fast, and sometimes 4-5 new shoots grow from a single node; just keep 1-2 and cut off the rest. When flower buds appear, the thin, small buds on the stem segments can be removed. After the flowers fade, cut off the spent flowers, shorten the 3-4 stem segments below the flowers, and thin out aged stems to help ventilation and later care.
