Yesterday a flower friend from Hubei left Chengcheng a message, saying there is no heating at home in winter, and asking what flowers can bloom in winter and are not afraid of the cold!

Actually, there are quite a few flowers that are not afraid of the cold in winter, but if you want ones that can bloom, are not afraid of the cold, and are also beautiful, then we had best grow Hippeastrum (amaryllis)!

Hippeastrum has very brilliant flower colors and large blooms, so it can truly be called beautiful. It also has another characteristic: it is especially cold-tolerant, and no matter how cold it gets, it will not be damaged by frost. If there is no heating at home in winter, then growing a pot of this flower is definitely the most suitable choice! Moreover, Hippeastrum is not only beautiful and not afraid of the cold, it is also surprisingly easy to grow. Even if you have never grown this flower before, you can still grow it well!

When we buy Hippeastrum at the flower market, there are two kinds: one is just a bulb, and the other is already cultivated!

If we buy the bulb kind, when we take it home and plant it, we must plant it in loose, breathable soil. The soil does not need to be too good; just ordinary nutrient soil with a bit of river sand mixed in is fine. You can pot it up with moist soil, so after planting it you do not need to water it. If you do not use moist soil, then after planting give it only a little water. Absolutely do not water too much; it is enough to let the soil have just a tiny bit of moisture. Then place it in a spot with indirect light, and it will sprout especially quickly!

Hippeastrum is also very simple to care for day to day. It is not picky about fertilizer. Usually you can just give it a little NPK compound fertilizer, and you do not need to apply too much; just use it twice a month. Once spring begins, switch to a high-phosphorus fertilizer, that is, monopotassium phosphate, so the flowers it produces will be big and vivid, very beautiful indeed!

Hippeastrum is really this easy to grow. There is one point, and the only point, I want to remind everyone of: for bulb-type flowers like this, when planting, be sure to put some foam or broken brick pieces at the bottom of the pot to prevent water from accumulating there, and absolutely do not water frequently; do not water until the potting soil has dried out completely!

As long as we pay attention to this point, its bulb will not rot. As long as the bulb does not rot, then even if you wanted to kill it, it would not be easy!
