Tips for growing spider plants in autumn: one pot becomes many pots, and tender leaves fill the pot in a month

Whether it is a newly renovated room or our balcony at home, keeping a few pots of plants, even the most ordinary spider plant, will instantly make a bare room or balcony more pleasing to the eye and comfortable, and looking at them every day will also put you in a good mood. Spider plants include variegated spider plants, golden-centered spider plants, curly spider plants, and green-leaf spider plants. No matter which kind, they are all easy to grow and propagate, and can purify indoor air. Spider plants that have been grown for one or two years gradually slow down in growth, and not many tender leaves grow. What is going on, and how can spider plants be made to grow vigorously in a short time? How should spider plants be grown in autumn and winter?
A little tip for growing spider plants in autumn: one pot becomes many pots, tender leaves fill the pot, and they grow vigorously in one month!
First, if you want to grow spider plants, it is very simple, and there is no need to buy them at all. If any relative, friend, or neighbor has grown them, just pick some of these runners back, with or without aerial roots. Just directly insert them into a flower pot, water a little, and shade them, and within two weeks they will begin to grow roots and sprout. They are very easy to propagate.
Friends who have grown spider plants must know that after a spider plant has been planted for more than a year, its white roots are numerous and large, almost as thick as a finger, and gradually fill up all the soil in the pot.
Having too many of these roots is not beneficial, and the nutrients in the soil are gradually used up, so growth gradually slows down. It may not even grow a single new leaf for one or two months, and the spider plant does not grow vigorously. So at this time, a small step is needed, using this little tip and little method.
Root pruning: dig out the entire spider plant together with roots and soil. You can see that there are especially many roots, almost all roots and few leaves, many roots and little soil. At this time, the roots need to be trimmed. Xiaoya usually cuts off at least one third of the roots. If there are many roots, cut off more; if there are not many roots, cut off less. Of course, a portion must definitely be left and cannot all be cut away. The leaves do not need to be cut off, as they need to carry out photosynthesis, and a spider plant with cut leaves is very bald and ugly.
Prepare a larger pot for repotting and prepare new soil. No matter what kind of soil this is, it must be fertile. If you do not want to buy fertilizer, you can use pond mud, eggshell powder, earthworm castings, decomposed chicken manure fertilizer, livestock manure fertilizer, and fermented soybeans. Any organic fertilizer is fine. Put it in the bottom of the pot as base fertilizer. Only with sufficient base fertilizer can spider plants rapidly grow new leaves and produce many runners. They grow especially fast. The spider plant Xiaoya grew had been repotted for less than a month, and many leaves had already grown out, especially green and vigorous.
If you really do not want to repot, there is also a simpler method, which is to loosen the surface soil in the spider plant pot, remove a small part, then add some fertile peat soil and leaf mold again, then water thoroughly once, and increase light. It will also grow like crazy. The leaves will be wide and large, and there will also be many runners.
After repotting, place it in a ventilated and slightly shaded place to recover for a week, and then it can get normal sunlight. In autumn and winter, it needs even more sunlight, so that the leaves can grow sturdy, with full and emerald green color, which is more helpful for overwintering.
In winter, before frost comes, move spider plants kept outdoors indoors, or to a place with light on the balcony, and reduce watering. That is enough. When it gets colder, put a plastic bag over them, and they can overwinter safely. In winter, they can also grow lush and green!
