Some friends like growing flowers, some like growing vegetables, but actually you can also grow some easy-care potted fruits at home. Figs are a potted fruit very well suited to growing at home, on a terrace, in a small yard, or on a balcony. Its fruit is very sweet, and both adults and children love eating it. It is also fairly easy to propagate from cuttings. Now, some friends say that the figs they rooted from cuttings bear little fruit, or the fruit is small - what is the reason, and how should figs be grown in autumn and winter?

When growing potted figs, try this little method - next year the branches will be loaded with fruit and the harvest will keep coming!

In fact, even a cutting taken the same year can bear fruit that same year, but the second year it will bear even more.Tips for getting fig cuttings to root successfully, that is, the branch must have bud nodes; you can root them in river sand or vermiculite. With enough soil moisture, you can cover them with a layer of film to keep the air humid, without light.

At no point during the process should you dig them up to see whether roots have grown. A gardening friend of Xiaoya's had a cutting that had already grown leaves, but because of curiosity and wanting to see whether it had rooted, its survival rate was affected. As long as a certain level of air humidity and soil moisture is reached and the temperature is suitable, it will root very easily.

Methods and tips for getting potted figs to bear lots of fruit

Keep up with water and fertiliser. Especially in autumn and spring, during the growing period and the early fruiting stage, you should fertilise it more. Any organic fertiliser can be used: eggshell powder, rotted chicken manure, fermented rice-washing water, cake fertiliser. Autumn fertilising is very important.

Keep up with light. If there is not enough light and it cannot get sun for a long time, its branches will grow leggy, producing only leaves and no fruit, or very little fruit. Xiaoya has grown potted figs for many years and even in the summer with strong sun kept them on the terrace - it does no harm. Only with enough light will it bear lots of fruit.

Keep it ventilated. It should be placed on a well-ventilated terrace or balcony, not in a wall corner or other nook. The closer it is to an outdoor, open-air spot, the more robustly it grows.

Repot and change the soil in good time. After a year or two of growing, the fig has already become taller and more luxuriant, and if the pot is too small, the nutrients are no longer enough. In autumn, promptly move it into a larger pot and change to more nutritious leaf mould, pine needle soil, or rich fertile soil, and it will grow faster and be covered with fruit next year.

In winter, as long as the temperature does not drop below minus ten degrees, and even if it snows lightly, it is basically fine left outdoors. Just reduce watering and stop fertilising, and it will get through the winter safely. As long as you grow potted figs this way, next year the fruit will be big and plentiful.
