Once October arrives, the weather in many places really starts to turn cool. It hurts my heart to see my little succulents in such cold!

Today let's talk about how to protect our succulents!

Coloring up

Autumn has arrived for succulents. Those green, leggy succulents of yours can now slowly become beautiful. Generally, in October, as long as it is not hot, you can put them out to sun.

If you don't have the conditions, create the conditions to sun them.

For succulent lovers putting them out to sun for the first time, give them a process of adapting first.

Start in the morning or in the evening, and don't expose them to full sun all at once, because the temperature difference in autumn is still fairly large; combined with light, succulents color up easily, which means your succulents will slowly become richly colored and beautiful.

Watering

In autumn, watering generally means water thoroughly once the soil is completely dry. When it starts to cool in October, that is also when normal watering officially begins.

Generally, you should care for them this way for one month first, to slowly restore the roots and leaves damaged by summer.

After one month, if you want your succulents to look better and fuller, you can appropriately control water.

That is, if you originally watered once a week, you can postpone it to once every one and a half weeks or 2 weeks. This way the succulents will be rounder and fuller, and that time also happens to be winter, so controlling water also helps them get through winter.

Ventilation

In the crisp autumn air, succulent lovers growing indoors should open the windows as much as possible. Ventilate your home more, and the plants also need ventilation, and succulents need ventilation too.

If the succulents are grown outdoors, there is basically no such problem. Why do I emphasize this no matter what season it is?

Because ventilation makes the soil dry out easily, makes water accumulation less likely, and also avoids many pests.

Generally, damp and shady places are more likely to attract insects, and once there are pests, many diseases easily arise, so succulents need more ventilation and should avoid water accumulation.

Speaking of water accumulation, let me emphasize again here that when repotting succulents in autumn, beginners must never use pure soil. Be sure to add grit (maifan stone, green zeolite, volcanic rock, or add some sand and gravel yourself). In short, the soil is also a key part.

Overall, growing succulents in autumn is not difficult. It is really just about creating the conditions to sun them more so they look beautiful, because the other factors are already provided by the season. (If it is still very hot where you are in October, you still can't sun them. Succulent lovers, remember to adapt to local conditions.)
