Grandma isn't good at growing flowers, but she grows vegetables on the balcony and just waters them, harvesting a batch every 7 days

These days growing flowers has become a trendy leisure activity; no matter the age, everyone loves to potter about with a few plants at home. But Huahua knows a flower-loving grandma who, although her usual flower growing results aren't too ideal, is a real master when it comes to growing vegetables, and her balcony at home is completely filled with them!
Grandma says that in the past the family wasn't well off and had no leisure to grow flowers, just growing vegetables and doing farm work every day. Now that living conditions are better and everyone lives in apartment buildings, retirement life at home can still feel boring, so she thought of making use of the empty space on the balcony, growing some vegetables, getting some exercise and eating with more peace of mind. Huahua thinks this makes a lot of sense too; watching vegetables grow from small seeds into green leaves gives you a real sense of achievement!
Huahua noticed that when growing vegetables on the balcony, Grandma generally uses special rectangular planters, so more seeds can be sown and there's more room for them to grow. And now almost all kinds of everyday vegetables like lettuce, Chinese chives and baby bok choy can be grown on the balcony; looking at that vibrant patch of green instantly lifts your mood.
Huahua asked Grandma and learned that growing vegetables on the balcony generally uses the sowing method, and before sowing the seeds are washed and soaked in clean water to sprout; you can also wrap them in toilet paper to sprout, and both methods give the same result. Seeds that have been sprouted grow faster once planted. Also, when growing vegetables at home you can just use leaf mold soil, as the nutrients in it are enough to support the growth of the vegetables.
Since Huahua is a beginner at growing vegetables, she shamelessly asked Grandma about some vegetables suitable for beginners. Grandma said you can grow pea shoots; this vegetable tastes refreshing, and the key is that it grows and is harvested very quickly, taking about 7 days to harvest a batch to eat. Now Huahua will teach everyone the little method for growing pea shoots!
Growing pea shoots requires pea seeds. In the first step, soak the prepared pea seeds in water for about 6 hours; after soaking, take the peas out and wash them. In the second step, put the washed peas into a seedling tray, and remember it's best to lay a layer of moisture-retaining paper inside, arranging them neatly. In the third step, you need to regularly sprinkle water over the pea shoots, two or three times a day is enough.
In the early stage of growing pea shoots, keep them in a shaded place for care; after about 4 days they can receive sunlight, and gradually you'll notice the pea shoots starting to turn green. By the seventh day the pea shoots are ready to pick and eat, but note that when picking you should leave about 2 cm of the root portion, so they can continue growing and can be harvested about 3 more times.
Pea shoots are simple to grow and their nutritional content isn't low either, making them very suitable for beginners to grow. From now on, don't leave your balcony idle; isn't growing some vegetables a nice thing to do!
