Many succulent growers encounter this situation when caring for their succulents: the leaves fall off at the slightest touch. Everyone feels heartbroken but doesn't know how to respond. Let the Succulent Guy give you some tips to solve the puzzle of "what on earth is wrong with my succulent," and I hope this helps everyone with growing succulents.

Cause 1 - Overwatering

Some growers, seeing their succulents looking a bit dry, keep watering them non-stop, which leads to excessive moisture and causes the leaves to fall off at the slightest touch. In this case, pay close attention to watering in normal care. Generally, water only when the soil is completely dry, and water thoroughly - don't let water accumulate in the pot.

Cause 2 - Black Rot

Succulent leaves falling off at the slightest touch is sometimes a sign of black rot. Specific symptoms include: waking up to find that the succulent has dropped many leaves; leaves falling off with a gentle touch; dropped leaves showing signs of water-soaked rot (sometimes the leaves look normal). At this point, throw away the black-rotted leaves. At the early stage, use a sterilized knife to cut away the black-rotted parts, then let the wound dry in a spot with indirect light and good air circulation before repotting.

Black rot is contagious, so if you find that one of your succulents has black rot, you need to isolate the other succulents as well.

Cause 3 - Lack of Light

[Solution]

The best solution for this situation is to give more sunlight in normal care. But in summer, be careful not to let them get sunburned - some succulents need shade.

Cause 4 - Root Rot

Leaves falling off at the slightest touch can sometimes mean there's a problem with the succulent's root system. At this point, you can pull the succulent out to check the roots. If there is a problem, use a sterilized knife to cut off the rotten roots, then apply some carbendazim powder to the wound, let the wound dry, and then repot.

Cause 5 - Non-breathable Soil and Pot

Sometimes if the soil and pot used for the succulent are not breathable, it can also cause leaves to drop. In this case, change the soil and pot promptly.

Cause 6 - Normal Metabolism

Besides the above 5 causes, there is also normal metabolism in succulents. This situation is relatively easy to identify - mostly only the bottom leaves drop, and the leaves are wrinkled and don't fall off easily.

When caring for succulents, if you notice leaves dropping, be sure to diagnose and treat your succulent promptly!
