Orchids rank fourth among China's top ten famous flowers, with a long history of cultivation, and have always been loved by Chinese people. They are widely popular throughout the entire Chinese character cultural sphere and remain a highly popular high-end indoor potted flower to this day. There are many varieties of orchids; today we introduce Dayipin. Let's learn about it together.
Dayipin
Dayipin is a perennial herb of the genus Cymbidium in the orchid family, native to the mountains of Fuyang, Zhejiang. Its flowers are large, its form is upright, with a narrow base and flared petals. It is most charming when first opening, with good color and form, and is the closest among Cymbidium orchids to the lotus-petal type. Its ornamental value is very high, and it ranks first among the old eight varieties of Cymbidium.
Full of Fragrance
In the ancients' standards for selecting orchids, fragrance came first. As the foremost Cymbidium, Dayipin has an extremely pure fragrance, delightfully aromatic. When one flower blooms, the whole room can be filled with its scent, and even air freshener can be saved. The flowering period is from March to May, with a large number of flowers; a single flower spike can bear dozens of flowers at the same time.
Easy to Cultivate
Dayipin was originally a Zhejiang grass, and has been introduced and planted in many places across the country. It is a relatively stable variety with easy care, and its reputation is obvious to all. For potting, use a loose, well-aerated growing medium. Beginners can directly use orchid soil, place it in a well-lit, ventilated spot without direct sunlight, and water thoroughly only when the soil is dry, not watering when it is not dry, to avoid root rot. Once you understand its habits, cultivation is not difficult.
Orchid Bonsai
Dayipin was once expensive. When the first seedling came down from the mountain, it once fetched a sky-high price of three thousand taels of gold, and when the orchid market was booming, tens of thousands of yuan per seedling was not uncommon. With the current popularity of orchid grass and the expansion of flower farmers' planting scale, the entire orchid market price has become more rational. A famous variety like Dayipin can be bought for just a few dozen yuan. If you cannot keep it alive, that is no good; if you raise it well, it is a beautiful bonsai flower, suitable for beginners as a practice grass.
